On That Third Day

On That Third Day-Dr. Sunitha Ganesh ( A POEM )
****************************************
If I die
Sit around me
And laugh aloud
Applauses must be heard
On my way till that end
The deepest end
Don't shut my ears with cotton, nd
My noses with roses.
Don't tie my legs, i wanna walk.
Ha, don't tie my hands, i wanna swim.
You may feel my heart heavier now!!
Yes, I am a little sad...
I wanted to fly like a kiwi,
I wanted to flower like a cherry,
Yes, I wanted to breed like a henny
I wanted to milk like a sindhy
Yes, i still have some
 more things
My heart is heavy with dreams.
Pull of my clothes,
I wanna fly as I born
With no worries of my zips and hooks.
Remember,
Before sending me to the deep,
Pls cut my lips, keep it safe with your kiss
Don't leave it in the grave,
Foxes may come that night,
Don't keep it in your suitcase,
Sometimes you may forget about it.
Dig a pit in the wet soil,
Keep the lips glued with the kiss in it,
Cover it with a soft press,
please it should be soft.
As you know I can't suffer the harder ones.
Don't forget to drop water with honey dews.
The third day,
The tree of kisses will grow,
It will grow and blossom as early,
Then you will be in its shadow
With newer dreams inside.

The cockroach theory for self development)

ANECDOTE NO.12

Sunder Pichai-Cockroach Theory -Don’t miss to read

(A beautiful speech by Sundar Pichai - an IIT-MIT Alumnus and Global Head Google Chrome:

The cockroach theory for self development)

At a restaurant, a cockroach suddenly flew from somewhere and sat on a lady.
She started screaming out of fear.
With a panic stricken face and trembling voice, she started jumping, with both her hands desperately trying to get rid of the cockroach.
Her reaction was contagious, as everyone in her group also got panicky.
The lady finally managed to push the cockroach away but ...it landed on another lady in the group.
Now, it was the turn of the other lady in the group to continue the drama.

The waiter rushed forward to their rescue.
In the relay of throwing, the cockroach next fell upon the waiter.
The waiter stood firm, composed himself and observed the behavior of the cockroach on his shirt.
When he was confident enough, he grabbed it with his fingers and threw it out of the restaurant.

Sipping my coffee and watching the amusement, the antenna of my mind picked up a few thoughts and started wondering, was the cockroach responsible for their histrionic behavior?

If so, then why was the waiter not disturbed?
He handled it near to perfection, without any chaos.
It is not the cockroach, but the inability of those people to handle the disturbance caused by the cockroach, that disturbed the ladies.

I realized that, it is not the shouting of my father or my boss or my wife that disturbs me, but it's my inability to handle the disturbances caused by their shouting that disturbs me.

It's not the traffic jams on the road that disturbs me, but my inability to handle the disturbance caused by the traffic jam that disturbs me.

More than the problem, it's my reaction to the problem that creates chaos in my life.
Lessons learnt from the story:

I understood, I should not react in life.
I should always respond.

The women reacted, whereas the waiter responded.
Reactions are always instinctive whereas responses are always well thought of.
A beautiful way to understand............LIFE.
Person who is HAPPY is not because Everything is RIGHT in his Life..
He is HAPPY because his Attitude towards Everything in his Life is Right..!

"Mamangam" - message against violence-B

"Mamangam" has a message against violence-BINOY( A REVIEW ON A MALAYALAM FILM)

Mamangam,  the "all time big budget" in Malayalam, unwittingly run out of steam and is more like a documentary..
Those who go to cinema bells on  expecting an action packed movie will be disappointed to see a 90% dialogue packed one..
Mammootty, a class act , through the decades with his versatile roles, just lacks the agility  for a die hard warrior.. undoubtedly a big ask on the legend at his age..
Much proclaimed his feminine character and the dance sequence never appealing..He deserves a better treatment..
Fight scenes didn't cause a stir as it  lacks timing and acting is  evident.. Pathetically, those flying scenes reminds you of 'sakthi man' as some still photographs flying than a power packed warrior jump...A big credibility gap.
Of course, those warrior sending scenes, Unnimukundan, the kid, Siddique, songs etc. get you some consolation..
Audience raise eyebrows as to why in the last scene- the all out fight- hero took a back stage waiting to carry the dead bodies to a safe destination than the live ones..The difference between the win and lose was only a brave warrior-Mammootty..Still he absconded...May  be to make a square deal with historical events...A tragedy.. A tragedy by all means..
Neverthless, Film maker's earnest effort to send a message across that of 'non violence' is worth applaudable..

What a nice lady !

What a nice lady !

I was sitting on the bus and somebody tapped me on the shoulder.
I turned around and saw an old lady. She said to me, "Sonny, would you like some nuts? I've got a couple hazelnuts and almonds if you'd like."
"Sure," I replied. Then she gave me a handful of nuts and went back to sit with her friends.
"What a nice lady," I thought, while happily munching on the nuts.
A few minutes later, I felt another tap on my shoulder and there she was again, offering some nuts. I gladly accepted and she went back to her seat.
After about 10 minutes, she tapped me on the shoulder, once again offering some nuts.
I asked her, "Why don't you eat them yourself?"
"Because we've got no teeth," she replied.
"Then why do you buy them?" I asked.
"Oh, because we just love the chocolate around them."

WHO ARE YOU?

WHO ARE YOU?

During one of his travels, Kalidasa felt very thirsty and looked around for water. He saw a woman drawing water from a well. He went up to her and asked her for water. She agreed to give him water, but asked him, “Who are you? Introduce yourself.”

Now Kalidasa thought that an ordinary village woman was not worthy of knowing who Kalidasa was. So he said, “I am a traveller.” But his lady replied, “In this world there are only 2 travellers – the Sun and the Moon. Both Rise and Set every day and keep travelling perpetually.”
O
Then Kalidasa said, “Alright then, I am a guest.” The lady promptly replied, “In this world there are only 2 guests – Youth and Wealth … both are temporary and hence can only be called as guests.”

Intrigued Kalidasa said, “I am a Tolerant person (sahansheel vyakti).” Now the lady replied, “In this world only 2 truly know the meaning of Tolerance – Bhoomi (Earth) and Tree. How much ever you stamp the earth or throw stones at the tree (for the fruits), both continue to nurture us.”

Now Kalidasa was completely perplexed. He said, “Fine. I am a stubborn person (hatavaadi).” The lady smiled and said, “There are only 2 truly stubborn personalities – our nails and our hair. We keep cutting them non-stop, but they continue to grow.”

Kalidasa had been patient so far, but now in anger he said, “I am a fool”. Now the lady gave a wide smile and said, “There are only 2 kinds of fools in this world – a King who rules without having any capability or knowledge & a Minister who is a sycophant to such a King and lavishes praises on such a useless king.”

Kalidasa realised that he had been outsmarted. He fell at the feet of the lady and when he touched her feet and then got up, whom did he see? Mata Saraswati – the Goddess of Learning and Wisdom. She said, “Kalidasa, you are wise. But only if you know yourself do you become a Manushya (human being). A person without any awareness of self has not reached the pinnacle of being a Human.

Note: The Guru who recounted this story in His Pravachan said, “Children should become a Manushya & know themselves. More than teaching them how to earn more money and become rich, parents should teach them to become aware of themselves and become better Human beings.”

Today, I remember my grandmother
As she attempts to connect with her second children
she finds the only english words she knows
from somewhere hidden in the belly of her 4 foot 9 inch body
and instead of awonke she greets us with "bye bye"
beckoning us into her thin clay colored arms
She has my mother's face etched with time
peers at me me from eyes wide and dark
like mine
I walk into these arms, the ones that mothered my mother,
taught her how to mother me
inhale the history from her skin
She reminds me of the little girl
bow legged and round faced, holding roasted corn in one hand
and a fistful of chin chin in the other
still begging for Orange Fanta to wash it all down
I remember her voice firm yet loving
"eh eh... mma bassey agi.. awai..."
you must eat, then drink
sometimes I forget but she remembers the small scared girl
carried away on an iron bird to America
Seems like that same bird has returned only to replace, her,
that perfect girl with me
this strange tongue tied woman,
the one that can barely say hello
without the clicks and moans the dips and tones of the white man's language
She listens now as I struggle with atum adem

It breaks my heart to realize that
I can only love her clearly in english

But tears do not replace the words
love will not make it easier
make it less heavy
desire will not help me remember
what the words taste like flowing like the Cross River from my tongue

But this is not my only tongue
Insolent and heavy with the awkward movements of amber waves
east or west this is not my village
and my heart still longs for my grandmother's voice
steady and strong crossing rivers and oceans
rounding buildings of mud, thatched roof
of steel and glass
concrete and confusion
still I am afraid that it will not find me here
in this land miles
from the one that welcomed me into this world
lifetimes before I existed in this cosmopolitan space

"nbong non yin ben yami?"
"nbong non yin ben yami?"
what will I teach my children?
what will I tell them of where I've been
the earth that shaped me
the hands that held me
the land that made me
what will they call home
and will they here it if and when it calls them
my heart still holds the salt and clay of Ugep
the strength of our women isn't lost in me
but sometimes I forget and find it difficult to walk in bare feet
afraid to remember what history feels like dust covered and
peeking from brown toes

oklahoma
DC
brooklyn
will not help me remember
ikom
ugep
calabar
they will also not let me forget fingers sticky with fuu fuu
swallowed whole
or tongues stinging numb from plantain fried in palm oil
But I have lost the grit and the grain of my grandmother's gari
I can't taste past this nostalgic lump in my throat
can't stomach the reality of this my divided culture
African
American
I am everything
And I am nothing
Nigeria quietly begs me to remember
While America slowly urges me to forget
but it's for my past
It's for my future
it is for my children
and it is for you, grandmother
that I must
always
always
remember

Malayalee's blood

A rich Sheikh was admitted at Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai for a heart transplant, but prior to the surgery the doctors needed to store his blood in case the need arose. As the gentleman had a rare type of blood, it couldn't be found locally. So the call went out to a number of countries.

Finally a Malayalee named Rajappan Neyyattinkara, Kerala was located who had a similar type of blood.

Rajappan willingly donated his blood for the Sheikh.

After the surgery, the Sheikh sent Rajappan as appreciation for giving
his blood, a new Toyota Prado, Diamonds, Lapiz Lazuli Jewellery, and a Million Dinars.

Once again the Sheikh had to go through a corrective surgery. His docto telephoned Rajappan, who was more than happy to donate his blood again.

After the second surgery, the Sheikh sent Rajappan a thank you card and a jar of Almond Halwa sweets. Rajappan was shocked to see that the
Sheikh this time did not reciprocate his kind gesture as he had anticipated. He phoned the Sheikh and said 'This time also I thought
that you would give me Toyota Prado, Diamonds and Jewellery.... but you gave only a thank you card and a jar of Almond sweets.'

To this the Sheikh replied:  'Mone'  Rajappa...I now have a Malayalee's blood in my veins!'-

To view A VIDEO on " Alcoholism in Campus "prepared by BHARATH SCOUT UNIT, S C HSS THIRUVALLA forwarded by ASWATHI MATHEW ,HSST ENGLISH  click here

The video is a good attempt to analyse the temptations of students in campus to take to alcoholism and it tries to give  a message against drug abuse and alcoholism. To be frank, the film lacks in artistic quality and does not have a good plot to create interest. And it fails to explore the reasons for certain students to subject themselves to such bad habits. It provides the simple reason that drugs and drinks are available in the open market and hence some students get them. There are subtle reasons more than this. The higher secondary class transaction as visualised in the film portrays the same old passive lecture method followed by the teacher and the students not engaged in any active learning process. This bookish approach might also be one reason why our students lose their interest in classroom learning and that may be the  reason why they divert their attention to something different. The dialogues even from the very beginning ( I mean the introduction by the Principal )could have been edited to make them shorter and crisper. However ,being the first attempt ,it remains a meaningful effort with a relevant message.Congrats, Aswathy teacher and the team behind the making of the video.- CKR

resilience - Anecdote

Just wanted to share with you -nothing serious,  couple of days, I was walking along the footpath ( a wide one-size of a road-it has hardened surface), when I noticed a ground worm slowing across it-it has reached, possibly quarter of its journey. Somebody stamped on it ( school has more than 1000 students) and half of its body was limp.  It was dragging its half limp body to the remaining part of the journey. In human terms I consider it like swimming ( not walking) 10 miles littered with poisonous snakes.
I could feel myself feeling respectful,   for that ground worm for its resilience* , and willingness to move forward in spite of the setbacks  and hard journey ahead.

A visualisation of the poem SUNRISE ON THE HILLS by JEMSHINA M T

PART 1 :

******************************I stood upon the hills, when heaven’s wide arch was glorious with the Sun’s returning march, And woods were brightened, and soft gales went forth to kiss the sun-clad vales.************************************ The clouds were far beneath me; bathed in light, They gathered mid-way round the wooded height, And, in their fading glory, shone like hosts in battle overthrown.******************************************** As many a pinnacle, with shifting glance.******( CONTINUED IN THE NEXT VIDEO..)

(Note by the  blogger ; you can control the scrolling just by placing the mouse cursor over that part of the line which you want to stop /pause /move )

************************As many a pinnacle, with shifting glance. Through the gray mist thrust up its shattered lance, And rocking on the cliff was left the dark pine blasted, bare, and cleft.***** The veil of cloud was lifted, and below glowed the rich valley, and the river’s flow was darkened by the forest’s shade, Or glistened in the white cascade; Where upward, in the mellow blush of day, The noisy bittern wheeled his spiral way.************** I heard the distant waters dash, I saw the current whirl and flash, And richly, by the blue lake’s silver beach, The woods were bending with a silent reach. Then o’er the vale, with gentle swell, The music of the village bell Came sweetly to the echo-giving hills; And the wild horn, whose voice the woodland fills,********** Was ringing to the merry shout, That faint and far the glen sent out, Where, answering to the sudden shot, thin smoke, Through thick-leaved branches, from the dingle broke.*********** If thou art worn and hard beset with sorrows, that thou wouldst forget, If thou wouldst read a lesson, that will keep thy heart from fainting and thy soul from sleep, Go to the woods and hills! No tears Dim the sweet look that Nature wears.********(repeat)***If thou art worn and hard beset with sorrows, that thou wouldst forget, If thou wouldst read a lesson, that will keep thy heart from fainting and thy soul from sleep, Go to the woods and hills! No tears Dim the sweet look that Nature wears.

A SPEECH ON CHILDRENS' DAY

COLLECTED FROM TIMES OF INDIA
Speech:
Respected Principal, teachers and my dear friends,

Today we have gathered here to celebrate Children's Day, which marks the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of Independent India. Pandit Nehru, who was born on November 14 was immensely popular among children and was fondly called Chacha Nehru.

He was a prominent leader and a greater freedom fighter, who fought hard for India's Independence and took oath as the first prime minister of the country in 1947. He served as the prime minister of the country for more than 16 years with a vision to make India a world leader.

During his regime, he advocated for children to have compulsory education and was very vocal about their rights. He believed in the ideology that children are the future of the nation and so it is crucial to nurture and educate them properly.

Children's Day is all not all about giving gifts to kids and organize events for them. It is a day to realize their importance in nation-building and provide them the opportunity to open their wings and fly high to achieve their goals.

He always said that it is a duty of every country to provide quality education to their children and ensure that they enjoy good health. Every country must empower their young minds as they are the future generation and the development of the country depends on them.

Once Pandit Nehru said that "The children of today will make the India of tomorrow. The way they bring them up will determine the future of the country."

So, this Children's day let's take a pledge to ensure that every child in this country enjoys equal rights, safety, and quality education.

With this, I conclude my speech. Thank you, everyone, and I wish you all a very happy Children's Day!
