GANDHI- THE MAN WHO FASCINATED MASSES.
Gandhi came into Indian politics when the people were in a quagmire of fear and defeatism. He identified the main problems of the people -like a psycho analyst .The main issues were fear, unemployment, hopelessness, poverty, starvation and defeatism. First , he enlightened the people about the Objective of the freedom struggle as the freedom of INDIA which was possible only through the welfare of the masses in her villages .
He also suggested that the method ( the strategy )must be of peaceful non-cooperation. In his opinion the peaceful action must be two –fold - challenging the British and fighting against our own social issues- which involved raising the depressed, solving minority issues and ending the crime of untouchability. Gandhi identified the main props of the British rule as fear, prestige, cooperation of the people and vested interests .He decided to attack these foundations. He taught the people to be fearless and the importance of being truthful in public life through campaigns like peaceful non-cooperation, giving up British titles and simple ways of living . The leaders visiting the villages and staying there to understand the miseries of the farmers was a great learning experience to the freedom fighters.
He told the people that he had a vision for a new India with a prominent role for the poor in building the Nation and with all the communities living in harmony. He dreamt of an India where there would be no untouchabilty and people being not addicted to drinks and drugs. He also spoke for the equality for women and a fusion of religions. This vision kept the spirit of freedom aflame in every Indian.
His excellent leadership qualities kept the people united and poised .He was amazingly energetic ,confident and convincing ,like a powerful current of fresh air. Gandhi was a leader of the people, fascinating them like a magnet does. He made the people proud of their past, hopeful of the future and got them united in resisting the foreign rule. Like a powerful beam of light piercing the darkness , this great leader effected a psychological revolution among all kinds of people.
