CORONA
They call you 'Corona', 'Covid-19', 'SARSCov_2';
We are good at that_
In naming and calling names.
'Corona' sounds better as
You, the global emperor now
Not sparing Kings and Queens-
Fearless Conqurer, equalizer impartial.
Though we wash you away with a sanitizer, You wheel on your chariot unharnessed.
No Alexander invaded so much!
No Hitler was afraid so much!
We tamed lions,  elephants
All that we could see
But, YOU...CORONA, the 'Almighty',
Unseen, are taming us instead-
We pray
Still you are good in a sense
You locked us down
But, with the  beloved,
In our homes, locking our hearts together.
The non - polluted air
Touches us soft
Gives us good breath.
You taught us many
Now , we learned
We'll be better
PROMISE
SO LEAVE US
GO CORONA PLEASE...

THREE VISIONS FOR INDIA-APJ KALAM

In 3000 years of our history, people from all over the world have come and invaded us, captured our lands, conquered our minds. From Alexander onwards, the Greeks, the Turks, the Moguls, the Portuguese, the British, the French, the Dutch, all of them came and looted us, took over what was ours. Yet, we have not done this to any other nation. We have not conquered anyone. We have not grabbed their land, their culture, their history and tried to enforce our way of life on them. Why? Because we respect the freedom of others.

That is why my first vision is that of FREEDOM.

I believe that India got its first vision of this in 1857, when we started the war of Independence. It is this freedom that we must protect and nurture and build on. If we are not free, no one will respect us.

My second vision for India’s DEVELOPMENT.

For fifty years we have been a developing nation. It is time we see ourselves as a developed nation. We are among top five nations of the world in terms of GDP. We have 10 per cent growth rate in most areas. Our poverty levels are falling. Our achievements are being globally recognised today. Yet we lack the self-confidence to see ourselves as a developed nation, self-reliant and self-assured. Isn’t this incorrect?

I have a THIRD vision.

India must stand up to the world. Because I believe that, unless India stands up to the world, no one will respect us. Only strength respects strength. We must be strong not only as a military power but also as an economic power. Both must go hand-in-hand.

My good fortune was to have worked with three great minds. Dr. Vikram Sarabhai of the Department of Space, Professor Satish Dhawan, who succeeded him and Dr.Brahm Prakash, the father of nuclear material. I was lucky to have worked with all three of them closely and consider this the great opportunity of my life.

I see four milestones in my career:

Twenty years I spent in ISRO. I was given the opportunity to be the project director for India’s first satellite launch vehicle, SLV3. The one that launched Rohini. These years played a very important role in my life of a scientist. After my ISRO years, I joined DRDO and got a chance to be the part of India’s guided missile program. It was my second bliss when Agni met its mission requirements in 1994.

The Department of Atomic Energy and DRDO had this tremendous partnership in the recent nuclear tests, on May 11 and 13. This was the third bliss. The joy of participating with my team in these nuclear tests and proving to the world that India can make it, that we are no longer a developing nation but one of them. It made me feel very proud as an Indian. The fact that we have now developed for Agni a re-entry structure, for which we have developed this new material. A very light material called carbon-carbon.

One day an orthopedic surgeon from Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences visited my laboratory. He lifted the material and found it so light that he took me to his hospital and showed me his patients. There were these little girls and boys with heavy metallic calipers weighing over three kilograms each, dragging their feet around.

He said to me: Please remove the pain of my patients. In three weeks, we made these floor reaction orthosis 300-gram calipers and took them to the orthopedic center. The children didn’t believe their eyes. From dragging around a three kg load on their legs, they could now move around! Their parents had tears in their eyes. That was my fourth bliss!

[08:19, 26/03/2020] Radhakrishnan C K 😁: Why is the media here so negative? Why are we in India so embarrassed to recognise our own strengths, our achievements? We are such a great nation.

We have so many amazing success stories but we refuse to acknowledge them. Why?

We are the first in milk production.
We are number one in remote sensing satellites.
We are the second largest producer of wheat.
We are the second largest producer of rice.

Look at Dr. Sudarshan, he has transferred the tribal village into a self-sustaining, self driving unit. There are millions of such achievements but our media is only obsessed in the bad news and failures and disasters.

I was in Tel Aviv once and I was reading the Israeli newspaper. It was the day after a lot of attacks and bombardments and deaths had taken place. The Hamas had struck. But the front page of the newspaper had the picture of a Jewish gentleman who in five years had transformed his desert land into an orchid and a granary.

It was this inspiring picture that everyone woke up to. The gory details of killings, bombardments, deaths, were inside in the newspaper, buried among other news. In India we only read about death, sickness, terrorism, crime. Why are we so NEGATIVE?

Another question: Why are we, as a nation so obsessed with foreign things?

We want foreign TVs, we want foreign shirts. We want foreign technology. Why this obsession with everything imported. Do we not realise that self-respect comes with self-reliance? I was in Hyderabad giving this lecture, when a 14-year-old girl asked me for my autograph. I asked her what her goal in life is. She replied: I want to live in a developed India.

For her, you and I will have to build this developed India. You must proclaim. India is not an under-developed nation; it is a highly developed nation.

Do you have 10 minutes? Allow me to come back with a vengeance. Got 10 minutes for your country? If yes, then read; otherwise, choice is yours.

YOU say that our government is inefficient.
YOU say that our laws are too old.
YOU say that the municipality does not pick up the garbage.
YOU say that the phones don’t work, the railways are a joke, the airline is the worst in the world, mails never reach their destination.
YOU say that our country has been fed to the dogs and is the absolute pits.
YOU say, say and say.

What do YOU do about it?

Take a person on his way to Singapore. Give him a name – YOURS. Give him a face – YOURS. YOU walk out of the airport and you are at your international best.

In Singapore you don’t throw cigarette butts on the roads or eat in the stores. YOU are as proud of their underground links as they are. You pay $5 (approx. Rs.60) to drive through Orchard Road (equivalent of Mahim Causeway or Pedder Road) between 5pm and 8pm.

YOU come back to the parking lot to punch your parking ticket if you have over stayed in a restaurant or a shopping mall irrespective of your status identity. In Singapore you don’t say anything, DO YOU?

YOU wouldn’t dare to eat in public during Ramadan in Dubai. YOU would not dare to go out without your head cove…

 (
Present situation-models - what we must do now ?-quote from Kalam)
PRESENT SITUATION
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_coronavirus_pandemic_in_India

What does India need ?

In India, we must revise the present health model to one which has a robust public health system — and for this we need to invest good money. It should not be a system which is based on private insurance. We need not do away with the private sector; the private will be there in the tertiary level, but primary healthcare is the duty of the government. This crisis points to the need for a public health system revamp IN INDIA just like we have in Kerala.
The Government of India must immediately decide to raise the states’ fiscal deficit ceiling from the current 3 percent to 4 percent.
The Centre should think of  doubling the old age/widow pension from the current Rs 300 to Rs 600.
At present Kerala pays about Rs 1,300 per month to about 5.5 million people—of this, the Centre’s contribution is Rs 300 for 0.65 million people.
The Centre must make food grains available to the states.
The Centre must double the allocation for the MGNREGS and increase the number of working days from 100 to 150. Wages must be increased by at least Rs 50.
The Centre can raise the payment for the Ayushman Bharat Yojana. At present, the Centre foots just 20 percent of the bill the state incurs. Now we are facing a health crisis, so let the Centre and state share it on a 50:50 basis.
The Centre can also increase its allocation for the national health mission, which increased by only 8 percent last year. The Centre can double that amount and transfer it to the state.
( ⬆  As told to Viju Cherian from an interview with Thomas Isaac , Finance Minister of Kerala.)

What has Kerala done ?

It is the public support and dedicated team of health professionals helpKerala to minimise the spread of Covid-19. Hundreds of people have remained at home in isolation for 28 days to save Kerala from the deadly virus. Their responsible social behaviour allow us to fight the Covid-19 outbreak better.

1. Contact tracing:

With previous experience of virus containment at hand, the state health department initiated a massive tracking exercise to trace a person who came in contact with newly infected people.

2. Route maps

Last week, district authorities began preparing route maps of the infected people, which involves tracking every point from when the patient landed in India or came in contact with an infected person, up to when they were admitted to a hospital. The information gathered includes place and time.

3. Quarantine comfort

While the Centre’s period of quarantine is 14 days, Kerala is quarantining people for 28 days.
4. Focus on mental health
The state opened multiple call centres to keep check on the mental health of those who are home quarantined.

5. Visits from govt officials

The health minister herself has been visiting patients.

6. Daily press conferences

The Kerala government holds a press conference, led by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan and health minister Shailaja, every evening with answers for any questions one may have about the outbreak, including details on the new cases that have been reported that day.
7. Increasing internet connectivity
Last week, the state government announced that it was working with internet service providers to increase connectivity by 30-40% in the state to meet the surge in demand, likely to be of relief to people who are quarantined or need to work from home.

8. Sanitiser production

The Kerala State Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Ltd, a public sector undertaking, has assured the state government it would produce enough sanitisers for the state.
9. App to combat fake news
While the state’s police has been directed to take stringent action against those spreading fake news, on Friday the Kerala government launched its app GOKDirect to disseminate information and updates on the outbreak.
10. Mid-day meal delivery
As the government announced on March 10 that all classes, including at madrasas, anganwadi centres and private tutorial institutions, would remain closed till the end of the month, the CM assured that the government would home-deliver the mid-day meals provided at anganwadi centres across the state.
11. Checking rail and road entry points
On Sunday, as two new cases were reported in the state, Kerala government launched intensified medical check-ups at 24 spots bordering Tamil Nadu and Karnataka for people entering the state by rail and road.

12. Awareness among migrant workers

We have asked the officials to visit migrant labour camps in the state and create awareness among them by using those who can speak their language. We have also given instructions to keep their localities clean.

13 Break the chain initiative

On Sunday, the health department launched a “breaking the chain” campaign to encourage hand sanitising among people in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
“There are chances of the virus being spread through our hands. Sanitising our hands will break the chain and prevent the spread of the virus. We must use hand sanitisers or wash the hands with soap and maintain personal hygiene. We need to spread awareness on hand hygiene campaign,”

14. Enlisting volunteers for help

With 22 confirmed cases of Covid-19, the state has enrolled volunteers to assist the health department after special training by officials.

15. Batting and prepping for foreign arrivals

The state government has opposed the Centre’s circular barring the return of Indians from coronavirus-hit countries such as Italy unless they produce a certificate that proves they have tested negative for the infection.
The state government has also sought the assistance of the Centre to help the expatriates, using diplomatic intervention, to extend the Visa and leave of those who are in the country.

16.Providing financial support to people :
Loans worth Rs 2,000 crore would be made available to needy families through all-women network 'Kudumbashree' during April-May. Rural employment guarantee programmes worth Rs 1,000 crore each will be implemented in April-May, he added. Social security pension of Rs 1,320 crore, to be given in April, would be distributed this month, he said, adding that 50 lakh people will benefit through the pension scheme. Those belonging to the below poverty line (BPL) and Anthyodaya, who don't receive social security pension, would be given Rs 1,000 each, for which Rs 100 crore would be earmarked. Cutting across APL and BPL families, 10 kg of free ration would be distributed and Rs 100 crore would be set aside for the purpose, he said. A string of 1,000 low-cost hotels, providing food at Rs 20, would be opened across the state next month, the chief minister added. The 'fitness' charges of auto-rickshaws and taxis and one month tax of stage and contract carriages would be waived, Vijayan said. Consumers would be given a month to clear their electricity and water bills and film theatres would get entertainment tax waiver. Vijayan said he had held a meeting of various defence heads in the state and they have promised all the required help. They have promised the services of their hospitals, doctors, paramedical staff and barracks and ambulances for coronavirus care. Helicopter services would also be provided to the state for transporting medicines, sick people and food at various places in case of emergency.

A SERIOUS DISCUSSION ON DEATH PENALTY

A SERIOUS DISCUSSION ON DEATH PENALTY
*************************************************
S :When all the world is desperately trying to save each and every single human life, four men are going to gallows tomorrow. At least their execution must be postponed, if not commuted, considering the panic around the world.
Its ironical that government machinery work day in and out to save human life during this time of corona and the same machinery work hard to take human life. The heinous crime they committed demands severe punishments, though not death.

C : If you were Nirbhay's father ........;If Nirbhaya were your daughter .......;.If your daughter were Nirbhaya ............... we spectators

M: YES( to C)

G :(to C )that's not the only thing-what if your brother was the criminal;your son was the criminal.
The one who actually made the worst attack which led to her death for Scot free as he is juvenile.
These were criminals and should be punished but death penalty for these while the main culprit goes Scot free. I am not sure.

C : (The) Juvenile must be given the same punishment.We do demand that modification in penal      code.His privilege should not be  other culprits' blessing

S:(on C's first statement )This is an emotional reaction... but my point is the irony in governments preparedness to save lives and take lives..... emotionally, I may agree with capital punishment, but justifying a crime with another crime can never be a solution.

M :Punishment cannot be termed as crime.

S :It is, Madam.

M2:( SMILING )You don't want to Kill Corona virus ?

S: ( SMILES TOO )

C:Punishment is given to the criminals not to the innocents.So it is never a crime.....

S:I am not against punishments.. But capital punishment..

C:Where it is needed, it must be ......

M:This has nothing to do with the crime these criminals had so heinously committed.

S:Yes.. But our judiciary bends its nerves before the rich and powerful people. (The)
Unnav MLA gets only a life term for rape and murder of many.

J:Did those criminals  listen to her pleas, when she was writhing in pain?did they stop assaulting her?if the answer is no,they deserve no sympathy.

S:I do agree.. The crime demands severe punishments. But death penalty is a big issue.

M: (To J )  I agree wholeheartedly
      (To S)  Only in India!!!

S2: They should be hanged as early as possible.

C : (The ) MLA must be given the same ..... Unfortunately..... Any how (the )MLA's luck should not be  a blessing to other culprits . Let's pray for their souls .Good night

J : How many times they approached the apex court for mercy.Do they know the meaning of mercy?

M: They have made a mockery of the judiciary for long, enough is enough.

S3: Their humanity had already died. So it is meaningless to continue with a rotten soul in the mortal body. Needless to empathise with them.
As the name NIRBHAYA suggests, she was a fearless girl.

: (Appluads  J on her first statement)

S3:But those fearless (fearless of punishment) anthropophagists took her vicinity and mauled her into pieces. Such  fearless girls should be able to walk on this bountiful Earth in future too. It would be then only would Nirbhaya's soul get realization.

S4:Death penalty to the brutal murderers is also an effort of the govt. to save the lives and pride of millions ..

G (from USA): This was more  because the media celebrated the case.
 Same thing happened to Harvey Weinstein case. He got 23 years. Normally, a person should have got 6 years for that. But again, media celebrated it.

A WRITE UP ON COVID 19 - ASWATHY MATTHEW

SILENCE.... AND  *SLEEPLESS  NIGHTS     BY ASWATHY MATHEW
        ~~~~
The early weeks of february 2020 witnessed and experienced the dreadful appearance and the severe impact of the *COVID 19* virus in human beings . People all around the world knew about the  SARS ,MERS,EBOLA and the NIPAH viruses but the COVID 19 virus was much more terrifying than the rest . The people were dumb-struck ,frightened and seemed to be under the clutches of the severe attack of the deadly corona virus .
It has been a very very long time since I felt the terrible silence in the streets,  the silence in the   market places ,the silence in the public places and the silence in the religious institutions . Why is this silence so deadly ?
If a single deadly virus ......... COVID19 can creep into this world and destroy it completely , then the world will stand united and will strongly fight for this common cause . So at times such dangerous viruses become a necessity . These viruses can keep a check on the pride of humanity .
Today the  touch and  feel of this deadly virus could be spotted everywhere . COVID 19 crept stealthly into the schools ,colleges,temples, churches, beauty parlours ,airports,offices and what not?....... Mobiles around the world were over loaded and pregnant with the   images,videos and messages of the COVID19 . All the Whatsap messages,FB posts ,Twitter tweats and  Instagram pics were all being controlled by one virus the CORONA . We could see the corona cookies ,corona sarees,corona jewellery ,corona masks everywhere.Also we could see the skillfull  ways of propagating awareness against the spread of corona virus by singing songs and making remarkable speeches . People found it fantastic and awesome to hear teenagers singing songs with strong lyrics about the virus . The creativity and composition was  brilliant and it touched the mind and soul of humanity .Teenagers ,kids and elders all united in this venture to produce remarkable results .
Precautions ,suggestions and advices came from througout the world to control this global pandemic . At first it was only a small outbreak in the city of Wuhan in China . Slowly it became a serious epidemic that began to spread to the near by countries. People who travelled to and from China and other COVID19 infected countries were to be quarantined .Everyone who were Infected with COVID 19 were kept under isolation inorder to prevent the virus from spreading. But few people were found  coughing and sneezing and were left alone to die in the streets . Dead bodies that were tightly packed in long black sheets were piled up in  several rooms. Tears flew down my cheeks, when I understood that there was no one to pay them their last tributes .
Miraculous healings and fasting prayers disappeared and vanished into thin air The priest ordered the congregation to stay in there homes and pray. churches were shutdown    . We could see the so -called pastors,astrologers and the clergy fleeing away from the dreadful corona virus.So we need such people?
Let us all awake ,arise and unite to fight this virus and let us make this world a better place to live in. This deadly virus has definitely taught us the value of friendship ,love and family relationships.We also learned the fact that cleanliness is next to Godliness. Hoping and praying that the powerful and divine forces of nature would disentangle us from this virus and enrich our civic sense.
 A big salute to all my readers .
Today is about equal rights
Today is NOT International Women's Day. It is not a day about diamond jewellery and spa sessions. It is not about pink bunnies and dark chocolate.
8th March is the International WORKING Women's Day (IWWD). Yes, that is the complete phrase.
The day was marked to commemorate the anniversary of the strike by the International Ladies Garment Workers Union and is celebrated in recognition of a woman's economic, political and social rights.
 The 8th of March symbolises the WORKING WOMEN'S STRUGGLE for the "Bread and Roses" – bread representing the economic struggle, and roses representing the cultural struggle.
Today is about equal rights, freedom of expression, freedom to earn and use our money, freedom to study, freedom to choose what we want to wear, who we want to love, how we want to live.
Today is about the right to education, the right to employment, the right over safe public spaces, the right over our bodies and our lives.
You can take your pink bunnies and dark chocolate and red roses and keep them where the sun doesn't shine.
