WHERE THE mind is without fear and the head is held high; Where knowledge is free; Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls; Where words come out from the depth of truth; Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection; ............................... Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action- Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

A WRITE UP ON THE BAN ON JUNK FOODS BY BAVITHA T
BAN OF JUNK FOODS IN KERALA
Kerala, the God's own country is famous for her
mouth watering unique recipes. Our rice soup and
curry are famous all over the world. Many tourists are
visiting our state for these unique recipes.
But it is very sad to say that, Keralites are
addicted to Junk Foods nowadays. We are trying to
emulate Europeans by following their way of eating.
We are addicted to Burgers,Pizza,Shawarma which are
famous in Europe. We are actually ignoring our
unique culture and running behind those Americians.
Earlier, we were very interested in eating
indigenous foods like Dosa,Idili,Sambar....But, now
the situation changes. Even our small children are
addicted to Junk foods. So our immunity is reducing
and we are becoming more and more vulnerable to
diseases.
Recently, the government was in a continuous
effort to prevent this addiction. Now they have come
forward with a mission to ban Junk Foods near our
school premises, so that our children will be safe from
these Junk Foods. But according to me banning junk
foods will only cause more and more troubles. We
have seen many drugs like marijuana, pan masala
which are banned in our nation , being secretly used
by some people. Some are considering it as a job and
earning millions of rupees. So banning will not put a
full stop to this issue.
Creating awareness is the most effective
solution. Awareness can do wonders ! We must
approach them psychologically and try to illustrate the
disadvantages of these junk foods. We know that the
main reason for consuming Junk foods is the lack of
time. Most of our families are nuclear families. We
don't have grandmas who are well educated of Kerala
style mouth watering recipes. Most of our parents are
employed and don't have enough time to prepare
meals for us. So they are giving money to buy what
we need. But these habits that we practise just to save
few hours can make us spare many years. It causes
many deadly diseases like cancer. These Junk food
items contain many preservatives.
Just think of our cheapest and favourite junk
food 'LAYS' which is very popular among our kids.
The manufacturers of this product are claiming that
they are real potato chips which contains lot of
nutrition. But its taste is entirely different from real
potato chips. It contains ajinomoto which is an
extremely dangerous chemical.
So let's stop this habit. It is high time to go back
to our old style of living by consuming our indigenous
food items.- BAVITHA .T

Created in 1962 on the request of US President Dwight Eisenhower as an experiment to provide food aid through the UN system, WFP had only existed a few months when an earthquake struck northern Iran.
Over 12,000 people died. WFP sent survivors 1,500 metric tons of wheat, 270 tonnes of sugar and 27 tonnes of tea.
Others soon needed its help: a typhoon made landfall in Thailand; war refugees needed feeding in Algeria. CREDITS TO THE HINDU.
