1.Who are these persons ?( use images in the text )

   Smitha Patil- one of the leading actresses of parallel cinema, a New Wave movement in India cinema

   Mary Com- the only woman boxer to have won a medal in each one of the six world championships

   Helen Boaden- the Director of BBC Radio,

   J K Rowling-has led a "rags to riches" life story, in which she progressed from living on state benefits to multi-millionaire status within five years

1. Have you ever thought about the various roles taken

by women in their homes and outside?

Women take a pivotal role in their homes .But most of them are not given important roles outside a house.

2.What are the challenges faced by women

today?

They…… are not allowed to share public spaces ./ are sidelined / are not given decision making roles / are denied equality / do not have equal access to education, especially  higher education  / do not have the confidence to take risks / There is discrimination against women ./ do not have access to finance / not placed in higher manegerial positions.

3. Are women equipped to meet those challenges?

Not now.But they could be equipped to meet these challenges. Much can be learnt from the success of women like Smitha Patil ,Mary Com and J K Rowling. Lack of confidence and lack of courage is an issue. The society is discriminating women. There are parents who think that girl children do not deserve higher education.We have to think about empowering women./reach out/give guidance/let them understand their strength

4.Home assignment –a).Read the speech made by THE 3LS OF EMPOWERMENT by Christine Lagarde.what are the main ideas presented ,Enlist at least three of them

b).Write a paragraph on the challenges women face in the present society.
