Teacher activities to generate English

 SUNDAY THOUGHTSLesson: 116

Teacher activities to generate English-2

An efficient English Language Teacher can make use of anything for generating the language.  For example, take two pens ask one group to say similarities, and ask another group to say differences. Lot many sentences can be made with various points of discussion.  In this way, it all depends on how a teacher is resourceful to drive home various ideas in children using the English language.

Today we shall discuss another activity which can be taken up in any class for that matter.

Suppose it is a class of 40 students.  Proper instructions should be given to students before the commencement of the activity.  Ask one student to stand outside. The one who goes out should not be able to view what is written or drawn on the blackboard.  Then call another participant to draw any picture on the blackboard.  It could be of any shape.

After drawing the picture ask everyone to draw it in the notebook.  When all have drawn the picture, clean the blackboard.  Now call the participant who was asked to stand outside the classroom.  The participant who has come in has to draw the picture hearing the instructions from the students purely in English only.  Make sure that they don’t use actions to help her.  Only verbal instructions are allowed.  For example, draw a circle.  Draw an amoeba-like structure with four projections name each projection with 1,2,3,4 then draw another small circle in the middle etc.  This becomes easy or difficult according to the drawing.  This way changes the participant and the diagrams.  Try this in your class.  Definitely, the students or the participants will learn many things from this interaction.

See you next Sunday.- Dr.Chandran.K , RIEMATES
