Disaster Management in India

Disaster Management in India ( 11 improvement files )

India is highly  prone to disasters like storms, floods ,drought and earthquakes. Many people die  and  property, buildings and the infrastructure  get damaged  as a result of these disasters every year.this So we must think about effective disaster management in India.

Disaster management  means reducing the impact of a disaster .It involves forming  disaster management committees at various levels ,providing training in rescue work , giving warning ,evacuating, preparing for and  taking safety measures, analysing the impact of the disaster, providing help to the affected and rehabilitating the people.

Death , damage and destruction is the net result of any disaster. There will be psychological problems too.We must also give importance to psychological rehabilitation .it is a very important part of disaster management.

Poor quality of the building structure is the major cause of deaths in many of the disasters. There should be an efficient system to monitor the construction activities  The U N D A C along with the government of India , has jointly prepared an action plan for monitoring the construction activities in  places vulnerable to earthquakes.

There are disaster management committees formed  in the national level and the state level .At the national level , we have  the crisis management committee headed by the cabinet secretary and the secretaries of the major departments of the government. At the state level , there is a state level  disaster management committee .It consists of the senior secretaries of various departments and the representatives of NGOs.The national level committee just facilitates the activities whereas the state level committee will be taking  the active role in disaster management. The central government will provide the necessary support to the states by providing defence services like airdropping ,rescuing, searching and providing medical support.

Rehabilitation is an integral part of disaster management.Special training  must be given to the rescue teams in the related skills. They need to be well equipped with the latest technologies. It is a fact that India has developed an effective system of disaster management at present.
