How did Gandhi change India

A : Analysis and  enlightenment

1.identified the main problems of the people in India-like a psycho analyst.
-fear,unemployment,hopelessness,poverty,starvation,defeatism

2.enlightened the people about the objectives of freedom struggle
gave importance to a two fold action.
 (a) the freedom of INDIA from foreign  rule
 (b) the welfare of the poor people in India.

3.made them feel pride about their past,ashamed of the present slavery and hopeful of  a bright future.

4.removed the fear from the Indians and made them united and ready for the freedom struggle through non-violence

5.attacked the foundations of british support through  speeches and nonviolent agitations.He gave importance to simple life ,religious tolerance and democratic values.

6.changed the lifestyle of the people -the poor as well as the rich. - gave no importance to richness and luxury;gave importance to simple life and noble ideals

7. He realised that most people of India lives in her villages.To change India we must change the villages.Every village must become self reliant and free of social evils.
Thus he changed the perspectives on freedom struggle and the development of  India

He identified the main problems of the people in India,like a psycho analyst.Fear,unemployment,hopelessness,poverty,starvation and defeatism were their problems.He enlightened the people about the objectives of freedom struggle.He gave importance to a two fold action.The political parties must work   for 
 (a) the freedom of INDIA from foreign  rule and
 (b) the welfare of the poor people in India.
He made them feel pride about their past,ashamed of the present slavery and hopeful of  a bright future.
He removed the fear from the Indians and made them united and ready for the freedom struggle through non-violence.He attacked the foundations of british support through  speeches and nonviolent agitations.Hchanged the lifestyle of the people -the poor as well as the rich.He gave no importance to richness and luxury;gave importance to simple life and noble ideals.He realised that most people of India lives in her villages.To change India we must change the villages.Every village must become self reliant and free of social evils.Thus he changed the perspectives on freedom struggle and the development of  India


B.  The methods  ( the strategy ) used by Gandhi

spoke to the people using simple but strong words in English and Hindi.- gave importance to truth, non violence and simplicity in public life .

i)  He told the people that the peaceful  action must be two-fold- challenging the British rule ; fighting  against our own social issues - which involved raising the depressed,solving minority issues,ending untouchability
ii)  identified the main props of British rule –fear,prestige,cooperation of the people and vested interests and worked against them
iii) taught Fearlessness and the importance of being truthful in public life
iv)  peaceful non-cooperation(ahimsa ),giving up British titles,simple life
v )  he sent the leaders to the villages and stay there to understand the miseries of the farmers

Methods of Gandhiji
He also suggested that the method   ( the strategy )must be of  peaceful non-cooperation. In his opinion the peaceful  action must be two –fold - challenging the British  and fighting  against our own social issues- which involved raising the depressed, solving minority issues and  ending  the crime of untouchability. Gandhi   identified the main props of the British rule  as fear, prestige, cooperation of the people and vested interests .He decided to attack these foundations  through non violence (ahimsa ) .He taught the people to be fearless and the importance of being truthful in public life through campaigns like peaceful non-cooperation, giving up British titles and simple ways of living  . The leaders visiting the villages and staying there to understand the miseries of the farmers was a great learning experience to the freedom fighters.

( C ) Qualities of Gandhiji as a leader

i) highly energetic ,like a powerful current of fresh air,confident,convincing power,like a powerful beam of light piercing the darkness
iI)He used simple short but powerful speeches to change the minds of the people.

iii ) He spoke about truth and nonviolence in life and practised them in his life
He practised what he preached.
 iv ) a leader of the people,fascinated the masses,attracted them  like a magnet
v) made the people proud of their past,hopeful for the future and united in resisting the foreign rule
vi) effected a psychological revolution  among all kinds of people

vii) He respected all cultures  and religions and believed in democratic ways of life.
vii ) he believed that India lives in her villages and hence worked for rual development in India.

His excellent leadership qualities kept the people united and poised .He was amazingly energetic ,confident and convincing ,like a powerful current of fresh air. Gandhi was a leader of the people, fascinating them like a magnet does. He made the people proud of their past, hopeful of the future and got them united in resisting the foreign rule. Like a powerful beam of light piercing the darkness , this great leader effected a psychological revolution  among all kinds of people.

( D )  Vision for a  new India

i.) A prominent role for the poor in building the Nation
ii) India lives in her villages.( must give importance to rural development)
ii) Communities living in harmony
iii) No untouchability 
iv) Not addicted to drinks and drugs
v) Equality for women
vi) Fusion of religions

He told the people that he had a vision for a  new India with  a prominent role for the poor in building the Nation and with all the communities living in harmony. He realized that India lives in her villages and all developmental activities must begin from the village as a unit.He gave importance to rural development.He dreamed of an India where there would be no untouchability  and  people being not addicted to drinks and drugs. He also spoke for the equality for women and a fusion of religions. This vision kept the spirit of freedom aflame in every Indian.
